Full Time Diploma Programs

McKenzie College has been providing technical and creative educational programs for over twenty years.

Our challenge as a registered Nova Scotia College is to provide innovative career training. We have consistently adapted our programs to meet the changing needs of the marketplace.

McKenzie College was the first institution in Eastern Canada to provide technical training in digital media and computer animation. Graduates of McKenzie College can be found across Canada in leading positions in creative media. We have continued to strive to provide relevant diploma and occupational training programs.

Our commercial driving and equipment operation programs have become very popular and are the only commercial driving training programs available on Cape Breton Island. Heavy Equipment operation is available in the spring and summer season and teaches students how to operate the front end loader, backhoe, bulldozer and excavator. Straight Truck / Forklift is designed for the logistics and transportation industry and trains students to operate a Class-3 vehicle and commercial forklift. Earthmoving combines Class-3 licensing and the operation of a dump  truck, backhoe and mini excavator. Our Applied Music Technology program is a unique program of musical study. We combine training in musical rudiments, technology, recording, performance and composition. This intensive ten month program is ideal for musicians who want to build a solid base of musical training. Graduates will be prepared for a career in musical performance and private education. This program is also a practical stepping stone to further musical education.

Media Arts provides a comprehensive base of video production training, including audio, imaging and animation fundamentals.

The medical industry is one of the most consistently growing industries in Canada. Our Medical Transcription program provides intensive training in anatomy and medical terminology. Graduates have employment potential in hospital transcription departments, doctors offices and private transcription firms.

Our Business Accounting program provides students with practical skills in manual accounting and includes instruction using the two most popular accounting software packages, Quickbooks and Simply Accounting. Security Alarm Technician is a newly recognized trade in Nova Scotia and McKenzie College is the first institution in Nova Scotia to provide training for students wanting to enter the trade as  an apprentice.

 

How Do I Apply For Admission?

We accept applications for program enrollment up to the start date of each program.  Application forms may be obtained online or from the registrar

Complete the application form for the program and return by fax, mail or in person, along with the $50.00 registration fee and supporting documents. Our registration office will confirm your acceptance into your program with a written letter of acceptance.

Music Demos
Music Students are requested to provide a two song demo CD or MP3 file with their application. Music demos can not be returned so please do not send originals. Auditions may be arranged instead of providing a demo CD.

Student Loan Applicants
You can begin your application process for Student assistance immediately upon submitting your application. Most applications for student assistance are now made online. Our registration office can assist you with completing your application.

Your student loan application requires that you submit proof of income and employment where applicable. This material can be mailed or faxed to the student loan office after you complete your application online.

Once your student loan application is complete you should notify our student assistance office so that we may forward to student assistance a confirmation of your enrolment into your program along with the program start and end dates.

Loan applications take up to eight weeks, on average, to process. This time may be longer if the student assistance office is waiting for supporting documents and may also be longer during peak application periods in September. Please apply early to insure quick processing.

Will I Qualify for Canada Student Loan Assistance?

Canada Student Loans are available to Canadian residents to assist in financing education costs. Several factors influence your eligibility for assistance such as income, place of residence and marital status. You can find National Student Loan information online that may help you calculate your potential eligibility.
